In addition to the Canaanites, the descendants of Abraham’s families (through his nephew Lot, his son Ishmael and his grandson Isaac) populated Canaan and nearby areas. The special blessings promised to Abraham were reserved for the descendants of Isaac. God intended that Jacob would receive the birthright and blessing, but he created hostility with his brother, Esau, by taking advantage of him to take away his birthright and gaining the blessing through deceit.
