The Day of Atonement thus pictures the loving reconciliation we have with God, made possible through Christ’s sacrifice. It’s in the future for the world, but the reconciliation atonement already affective is for us, as the people of God. This day just doesn’t picture the removal of the devil. It pictures the work of Jesus Christ on our behalf. It pictures what He had done with His people as we describe ourselves as the elect of the church, the Kingdom of God in embryo.
